Tim Keller has become one of the most respected Christian intellectuals of our time. As the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, he pioneered an approach to urban ministry that has been replicated in cities around the world.

About Tim Keller

Timothy Keller was born in 1950 and grew up in a non-religious household in Allentown, Pennsylvania. His journey to faith began during college when he encountered Christianity through friends and eventually came to believe in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

After seminary, Keller and his wife Kathy moved to New York City in 1989 to plant Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Starting with just 50 people in a Times Square office building, Redeemer grew to become one of the most influential churches in America and a model for urban ministry worldwide.

The Redeemer Model

Keller's approach to urban church planting emphasized:

  • Presbyterian Essentials: Reformed theology with strong commitment to Scripture
  • City Engagement: Understanding and loving the city context
  • Intellectual Apologetics: Engaging postmodern culture with reason
  • Social Justice: Integrating gospel proclamation with compassion ministries
  • Arts and Culture: Engaging the creative community
